For hosts

Here are some questions to get you started:

  • What do you see as the main objectives of hosting a WIL student?
  • How do you think this experience will benefit your organisation and the student?
  • Are there any specific outcomes you expect from the placement?
    • What tasks or projects do you have in mind for the student?
    • How do these tasks align with the student’s course learning outcomes?
  • Will the work be on-site, online, or a mix of both?
  • Who will be the primary supervisor or mentor for the student?
  • How often do you plan to meet with the student for feedback and guidance?
  • What support will you need from the University during the placement?
  • Internships can be paid or unpaid. For unpaid internships, we encourage hosts to consider providing a stipend to assist students.

Key documents:

  • WIL Supervisor Guidelines – This document serves as a comprehensive guide for industry partners and mentors who host UC students for Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experiences. It outlines the structure of WIL as a partnership between the university, the student, and the host organisation that combines academic learning with professional practice. The guidelines detail the responsibilities of the supervisor and the organisation, covering preparations for hosting a student, what to do on their first day, and how to support them throughout their placement. Additionally, the document provides essential information on legal and practical matters, including the distinction between paid and unpaid placements, insurance coverage, workplace health and safety, intellectual property, and the professional behaviour expected of students.
  • Host Organisation Work Agreement (HOWA) – This is a formal contract between the 91直播 and an external organisation providing WIL opportunities to students. It sets out the legal obligations of the university, the host organisation, and the student for all placements over a three-year term, with the specific details for each placement documented in a separate WIL Confirmation.
  • Internship Agreement – This document which the student signs, acknowledges their professional obligations regarding conduct, confidentiality, and intellectual property. The form also documents the specific details of the internship, including the host organisation, placement duties, and supervisor information, and remains in effect for all placements during the student's program of study.
  • Internship Evaluation Form – This form is where the supervisor assesses’ the student’s performance over the course of the internship. This assessment counts towards the student’s final grade.
