We offer two scholarships that are specific to current and former defence members. Receiving payment from a scholarship or bursary can ease some of the financial pressures of going to university. It can help you to stay focused on your studies and take up opportunities that may get you where you want to be in the future.
Veteran Tertiary Support Program
At the 91Ö±²¥, we recognise your commitment to your country and your experience serving in the Australian Defence Force (Defence). As a current or former member of Defence, you are invited to participate in our Veteran Tertiary Support Program (VTSP).
If you are a current or former member of Defence and would like to study at the UC, your participation in the Veteran Tertiary Support Program entitles you to:
- apply through the website for direct entry
- receive an automatic selection rank based on your Defence rank and experience
- obtain automatic credit for some units in some courses reducing your course completion time and the cost of your course
- apply for Recognition for Prior Learning (RPL) for additional credit, subject to course requirements and credit limits
- access a range of tailored support and benefits.
Provide your Defence Service Record
To apply, submit the first page of your Defence Service Record. You may redact any details not relevant to admissions assessment (see Admission and Block credit below).
If you don’t have a copy of your Defence Service Record already, you can request it by contacting Defence via 1800 333 362 or customer.service@defence.gov.au.
When submitting your request, ensure you include at least three identifying details in your email: full name, date of birth, PMKeys/service number, place of birth, or former name (if applicable).

Register for the Veteran Tertiary Support Program
If you are a current or former defence force member or defence force family member, the application form asks:
‘Are you applying for the Veteran Tertiary Support Program?’ Please select ‘Yes’ from the drop-down list.
Your application will be automatically assessed for admission into:
- Undergraduate Courses – Admission and Block Credit Recognition, or
- Postgraduate Courses – Admission Only
Once you have accepted your offer to study with us, our UC staff will reach out to connect you to the personalised support available through the Program.
The Veteran Tertiary Support Program provides tailored support and benefits to you as a current or former Defence force member or a defence force family member. This tailored support is designed to support your transition to study at the 91Ö±²¥.
Undergraduate Admission – ADF current and former members
Current and former ADF members — Air Force, Army and Navy — are eligible for undergraduate admission based on their rank and years of service, which are converted to a selection rank (similar to an ATAR):
- Commissioned Officers (any rank), Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (E-6 or above), Chaplains and Maritime Spiritual Wellbeing Officers
- Selection Rank of 83 for 1–3 years of service
- Selection Rank of 92 for more than 3 years of service
- Other Ranks
- Selection Rank of 73 for 1–3 years of service
- Selection Rank of 75 for more than 3 years of service
These Selection Ranks help determine your eligibility for admission into undergraduate courses. No formal qualification equivalency is required.
Block Credit
If you are a:
- Commissioned Officer (any rank)
- Senior Non-Commissioned Officer (E-6 or above)
- Chaplain or Maritime Spiritual Wellbeing Officer
You are eligible for up to 24 credit points of block credit (unspecified) toward your undergraduate degree subject to course rules. Block credit (unspecified) is not available for Other Ranks under this framework.

Postgraduate Courses – Admission Only
Current or former Commissioned Officer (any rank), Senior Non-Commissioned Officer (Rank E-6 or above) and Chaplain and Maritime Spiritual Wellbeing Officer (any classification) in the Australian Defence Force (ADF) – Airforce, Army and Navy, are also recognised for admission into most of our postgraduate courses.
Those with 1 to 3 years are considered to have a Bachelors degree (AQF Level 7) equivalent with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4 while those with over 3 years of service are recognised with a GPA of 5. This equivalency supports your eligibility for entry into our postgraduate coursework courses.
Members of the ADF in Other Ranks with over 3 years of service are recognised for entry into selected Graduate Certificate or Diploma courses. Details of the courses available are in the Digital Handbook.
